Advertising in the AI era: from targeting to assisted creation
How Artificial Intelligence is reshaping every step of the advertising chain — from planning to dynamic creative.
Digital advertising has entered a new phase. It's no longer just about buying impressions: it's about orchestrating intelligent systems that learn, optimise and create in real time. In 2026, leading brands treat Artificial Intelligence as a structural layer of the marketing stack — not as an isolated experiment or innovation pilot.
From probabilistic targeting to intent modeling
With third-party cookies phased out in Chrome (finalised in 2025) and the EU ePrivacy framework strengthened, predictive models have replaced declarative segmentation. Platforms like Google Ads Performance Max, Meta Advantage+ and TikTok Symphony operate on aggregated signals, first-party data and intent modelling — delivering efficiency even in environments with fewer observable data. The media planner's role has shifted from choosing audiences to choosing signals and business constraints.
Generative AI-assisted creative
Tools such as Adobe Firefly, Runway Gen-4, Google Imagen and Sora have drastically reduced the marginal cost of asset creation. The most mature brands now produce dozens of creative variations per campaign, tested continuously with algorithmic feedback. Creative becomes a system, not an artefact. In-house creative studios that master prompt engineering and automated brand guardrails have emerged as a real competitive differentiator.
Governance and brand safety
Greater autonomy of systems brings greater reputational risk. Responsible brands are rolling out AI Governance frameworks aligned with the EU AI Act (in full application since August 2026), with audit trails on datasets, brand-safety scores and human-in-the-loop reviews on high-risk decisions.
What to do now
Start by consolidating your first-party data foundation, adopt at least one automated buying platform with AI, put a weekly internal creative-testing process in place and formalise an AI Governance committee. Competitive advantage will be built by whoever operationalises faster — not by whoever accesses the largest models.
